My Story

Everyone always asks, “When did you decide to be a dentist?” I think I am a little out of the ordinary in this regard as I decided I would be a dentist when I was 6 years old. My mother has it written down in my scrapbook that I returned from a visit to my childhood dentist, Dr. Lippencott, and told her, “I’m going to be a dentist when I grow up.”

Besides Dr. Lippencott, who always made me feel special and important when I went to his office, I was blessed to come in contact with many other dentists from childhood to adulthood who influenced and encouraged me to follow my dream. Dr. Redmond, my orthodontist, always took time to answer my questions; Dr. Robert Herman, who was my Scoutmaster, always set a great example as a person; Dr. Peter Silcher was a career day advisor while I was in high school and never tired of my endless questions when I spent time in his orthodontic office, and finally Dr. Jerry Jeffry, who allowed me to work in his office during school breaks and cemented my decision to pursue orthodontics as my profession.

After 12 years of living in Southern California while attending college, dental school and my residency in Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics, it was finally time for me to decide where to practice. My wife and I both grew up in the Bay Area and were pleased when Dr. Jeffry invited me to join his practice. While my wife and I both enjoyed the sunny Southern California climate and all our friends from UCLA, we knew Northern California was where we wanted to settle down and raise our three children. Ultimately, being able to start my career in East County was also quite meaningful as my mother was raised in Antioch, and my grandparents were both longtime teachers at Antioch High School and Junior High.

I believe loving what you do provides us with the excitement to begin each day with enthusiasm. I enjoy going to the office each day because I know it will always present new and exciting challenges. I am fortunate to work with a talented and dedicated team who are passionate about helping others. Dentistry, and orthodontics in particular, is a profession where we can make a significant difference in people’s lives.

I consider it a great honor to be entrusted by my patients and their families to work with them to achieve a fabulous smile. Each new patient we see and each patient whose braces come off allows us the opportunity to change lives, one smile at a time. The numerous cards and thank you notes received reminds us of the difference we make. One patient in particular stands out in my mind. She was a young girl, who happened to be blind, who told me she wanted her smile to light up the room. When we were finished with her care, she told me, “I can’t see my smile, but I can feel it!” This young patient was also a talented musician who went on to compose and sing a song titled ‘You Make Me Smile’. She burned it on a CD, and I will still listen to it in the car.

Our entire team is committed to building a unique relationship with everyone who visits us. We work hard to make the journey to a beautiful smile more than just brackets and wires. By having fun with our patients and their families we strive to create a memorable experience.

So that’s my story. I would love the privilege to be your orthodontist. We are always accepting new patients, and we would love to help you achieve the smile you deserve.
